Program Assistant - 19 hours / week
The library is accepting applications for a Program Assistant to assist the Library Manager with planning and coordinating programs, outreach and special events with an emphasis on services for teens and adults.
The person in this position will:
Build community partnerships that lead to opportunities to promote reading, build literacy skills and encourage learning. Participate in community events to promote the library and library services.
Assist with marketing efforts for the library and with program-specific advertising; create and distribute promotional materials.
Identify community interests and needs and plan relevant programs that will appeal to teens and adults.
Prepare and deliver a selection of popular library materials to locations in the county that are currently underserved.
Be accountable for project resources and ensure program funds are used properly and effectively.
Understand library circulation policies and procedures and the library card application process. Assist customers at the library's service desks as needed. In addition to checking out books, desk duties include faxing, scanning, database searching, providing assistance with computers and printing and assisting customers with locating books and materials.
Must have experience working with community organizations or with planning and leading activities for an organization. Must have a demonstrated ability to plan projects and carry them through to completion with minimal supervision. Public library experience is a plus but is not required. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed an accredited 2-year or 4-year degree program in a related area.
We will be looking for a record of experience that reflects a creative and service-oriented approach and sound judgment. Must exhibit outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in small or large groups.
Must have sufficient computer skills to comfortably teach and assist others with basic computer software, online library resources and internet searching.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
